Sure you can. You can win by not making generalizations. Or, if it's a well-documented accurate generalization, show the scientific data to back it up. Or, if you're basing it on your own significant amount of experience, say, "In my experience, ______." If you're basing it on something you pulled out of your arse, however, people should and will call you out on it.
