Hi all!

This thread is about on my GF's attire to work. Today, I got her to take a picture of her feet today at her desk for me, check it out. The reason why I'm posting this now is because I want to get your opinion on whether I have valid reason to raise the topic. I've already expressed my concern about wearing clothes to work and she's gotten a "warning" from a manager at work for overly exposed attire. It is a professional environment with a diverse staff.

Her argument when talking about the topic is always the same - "a girl should always look fabulous" and "other girls dress more 'slutty'." As a measure of judgment, let's use her flip flops she often wears to work, including today. Feet "fetishes" are the most common type of "fetish" (http://goo.gl/Ekfb3z]. I love girls feet, as do other men, and she knows that. She happens to keep her toes pretty ( as you can see), which is awesome. lol

My question is:

Am I in the wrong for saying something like:

"Hey, I don't really like when to see you wear those sandals to work because I don't want other guys looking at your cute feet when you're at work. A lot of guys like feet."?

Yes, you'd be wrong for complaining. She can show her feet as much as she wants (or at least until she gets fired).

You'd hate living in Florida. Girls show their feet here ALL the time... it's beach life.

Yes, you are wrong. You don't get to control what your GF wears.

She has already been reprimanded for her attire. When she loses her job for dressing like she's going to the beach instead of working in an office, maybe she'll learn. But THAT is the reason why she should dress more professionally, not because YOU are trying to cover her body up like it is some kind of possession of yours. That's Taliban some crap right there.

Oh, and welcome, new member.

Wouldn't be a problem in my office, but we aren't required to dress up.

He's trying to make the case how his insecurity and possessiveness actually line up with her career goals.

It's not your issue, if she gets in trouble she'll modify her own behavior. I find it controlling for you to be on her about it, if you act like her dad rather than her bf, don't expect her to remain attracted to you for long.

Some workplaces allow sandals or other open-toed shoes, especially in creative fields. Even more conservative fields will allow for peep-toe pumps. But that footwear is a pair of glorified flip-flops. I've never worked anyplace where flip-flops, even "fancy" ones, are allowed. Apparently the OP's girlfriend has no concept of her company's dress code. Someone in HR needs to sit down with her and go over that part of the company handbook.
