But she's basically never even attempted penetration. She's too afraid.
I know--that's why I said it has nothing to do with one person. I thought she meant that she attempted the penetration (both via dilator and another person) but she clarified. It's the act, not whether she had sex with one person or 20 that is the problem.
I do not view it as a great experience but a neccessary evil. I say do not do it. Get in a relationship with someone and do not have sex. I think that is so cool!

WOW.
Guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round, but this is incredibly sad to me
No problem. I meant that I can't mentally bring myself to do it. I'm sure it's easier once you get started, but I've never been able to get started.
Right. Even if I wasn't 100% attracted to him, I could do other sexual stuff with him, so I'm sure we would've had intercourse if I didn't have a mental block about it.
Again, a plastic surgeon drugging you is not going to do jack squat to treat a mental block. I cannot emphasize this enough.

And I understand your position. The sedation is only administered for the initial dilation and lasts for a short time, so the majority of treatment doesn't involve being drugged.
My feeling is just that it wouldn't be hard for me to get past the mental block once I've had a positive or neutral penetration experience. I think being thrown right into it (painlessly) would be a quicker and more direct way to deal with it than anything else.

You know, I can really understand your logic here
But I would like to make a suggestion that would be far more affordable and could accomplish the same goal....make an appt to see a gynecologist. Explain your fear and ask them to help you by giving you a very gentle pelvic exam. Request that the doctor give you a little Valium before the exam. The tool a gynecologist uses is very much like one of those dilators you are talking about above. In all likelihood this would be a successful penetration and then you'd have confidence and start to get beyond you mental block. THEN follow this up with some talk therapy to address your extreme anxiety issues okay?
Yes, especially if they are going to help with the mental/emotional aspect of it.
