We graduated in the same class (1985) but I barely knew her then. I had seen her profile on Facebook in the past and took notice of it but I never contacted her since I never knew her well. I think she is single with no kids, same as me. What I do remember about her from hs was that she was sort of quiet but friendly.I would be interested in getting to know her but I have no idea how much she remembers me. Any ideas?

Friend her, but send her a friendly hello message, with a "Remember me? I was __________________" (in the drama club, on the swim team, worked for the school newspaper, whatever) to jog her memory.
Yes, being friends on facebook is a lot different than real life, its pretty easy. If you are future tripping on what might or might not happen, calm down...it may take a while before you send her messages declaring your interest in the meantime you can get a better idea of where she is and who she is today by what she sends out.
What do you have to lose? A few years ago I came across a guy from high school on Facebook that I thought was cute in high school, but didn't really know. He accepted my request and I sent him a message. We ended up dating for awhile!
