Hard to answer without pix of the idea. I picked the runner. But it depends here.
Are we talking skinny, as in I can see outlines of ribs? If so, I don't want that, it looks sickening. I prefer muscle tone. Doesn't need to be buff, but don't care for the skinny, pretty boy look
My ex is a super skinny marathon runner... so skinny that people ask me if he's sick and some even asked me if he has cancer (I actually wonder if he's anorexic). So I picked the chubby guy--chubby isn't so bad really. But really, that's my own bias based on history and associating other runners with my ex. When I did do online dating, if a guy had a picture of him running a marathon or something, I usually skipped him (I know, illogical and unreasonable, but it was an emotional reaction, not a logical one--the idea that he might be, in some way, like my ex turned me off).

Most "gym rats" are not going to eat just a salad at any meal. If you're truly working out to bulk up you'll be counting grams of protein and eating a lot of it. Usually in the lean meat categories such as chicken and turkey. I don't know what kind of guys you've been dating, but they were doing it wrong.

Of course I voted for the chubby guy. Marathon addicts are bulimic, fragile and obsessed, and they have diminished sperm quality and motility. That's not the right person for me.
If your only asking about looks. No one likes a fat guy who doesn't care about himself enough to be healthy. A runner is healthy and can do lots of things with you.
