So I've been going to the same hair salon for a few years and I've had the same stylist the entire time. She had a new assistant start. My second time around, this new assistant did these things:

1. Ask me questions to keep some conversation going. I'm not the best conversationalist and can be aloof even with friends. I know it's part of her job to be nice and converse but I feel like most women wouldn't bother even in a service oriented job.

2. Near the end of my haircut, as I was sitting with my arms on the armrests, she leaned her thigh right on my hand while she was doing my hair. I pulled back slightly for some unknown reason, perhaps not to invade her space while she's working. Then she backed off and I put my hand back on the armrest. She put her thigh right against my hand again and this time I just left my hand there. It wasn't like 1 second. It was probably a full 10 seconds that her thigh was pressed up against my hand.

As a guy I am oblivious to clues, but I get the sense there's mutual attraction. Let's say I want to ask her out. How the hell do I do it in this situation while she's working, in front of all her coworkers, and I'm a customer who wants to continue going to my hair stylist regardless of what happens with this new assistant.

Absolutely. There is no perfect time. Just make sure her boss isn't around. Get to the point. Don't take up her time.
Go after what you want buddy.

I don't think it's appropriate to ask her at work, since her boss may here/see the interaction, which may get her in trouble.

On a side note: My dentist put her hands in my mouth. I think she likes me.

I have been asked out 3 or 4 times by women while they were working.

Has nothing to do with being appropriate.

No. Never bother a woman while she's working.

While THEY were working. That's on them if they want to risk getting in trouble.
