How many of you have been in those types of relationships, where you gave up everything for your partner? Or you know of people who have done this before? What do you think of the people who do these things?

Nope, I don't know any of these people. And if I did what I would think of them wouldn't matter, its their life. I'd butt out.

I don't know any of those people either.

IMHO... You do not give up everything to be with someone. You remain true to your self.

I'd imagine there are some people that do.... After my sister passed away, in her jounal, referring to her one and only BF she ever had, my sister wrote that she has lost herself being with him. Not sure what she meant by that. We were never very close.

What do you mean by "give up everything?" That's a pretty tall order. Even overseas brides who leave their country, families, friends, etc behind when they marry a man and move to his country still retain their personality, keep in touch with family, sense of self, etc. I think there are people out there who give up a lot for love, but I don't know it there is really anyone out there who gives up "everything."

Better defining what you mean by "give up everything" would help. I am not sure if you mean material things, social relationships, a persons own interests and desires, or a combination of all three.

Regardless, what I think of them makes no difference.

I think the OP may mean "give up everything" in the sense of someone sacrificed a whole lot more for the union to work. Say for instance a woman sacrificing her career to see that her husband gets his career, to only be left behind by the younger and "hotter" secretary. Those kinds of "give up everything" scenarios.

I can see that happening. Then the woman is forced to work 2 jobs to support herself because she didn't further her education after highschool.
