I have no idea what's sexy. Bruce Wayne. He's sexy.
I can say that law enforcement, fire-fighting, and the military are not all they're cracked up to be. Pro athletes, politicians, and (famous) musicians tend to be incapable of monogamy, so they're out. Artists, actors, dancers, and writers tend to be headcases, so they're out, too. (And I say this as a writer, and a daughter of an artist.) Never really got into the whole "rugged" bit, with mechanics, carpenters, cowboys, or craftsmen. Models, media people, and people in the fitness industry are entirely too vain. I don't know that I could ever fully trust a lawyer or salesman. Teachers don't do anything for me, and wouldn't like me anyway because I don't particularly find children fascinating or endearing as a population. I'm lousy with money, so accountants would get on my last nerve. Engineers and IT people are okay, but they would have to have a darker side, like they really belong to Anonymous or they're secret goths who run traveling S&M shows on the weekends.
Have I managed to offend everyone on this board yet?
I disagree only with your thoughts about men in "rugged" professions, IF they have the intellect and a certain refinement to match their ruggedness. Yes, a man like that is a rare animal, but a girl can dream...

Many of the male docs I work with have such hobbies. My colleagues:
Fly planes
Triathlons/marathons
Build furniture/woodwork/wood carving
Bake/cook
Restore/build cars
Hunt/fish/camp
Dive
Ranchers/horses/cattle/farm
Travel
Tennis/golf ( high club level)

Dancer (not stripper). I once dated a dance instructor, former ballet dancer, and she was soooo hot. The way she walked and carried herself was amazingly graceful.
Generally speaking artsy things, ie: artist, musician, actress. They can indeed be crazy, though, a problem that I had with those types (the dancer would get into these weird moods and had some ocd).
Turn offs: law enforcement, lawyer.

Classical musician, particularly one where attention isn't specifically drawn? Not nearly as much. It'll vary a bit by demographic, as everything does...but I wouldn't put the two together as the "same" category, even though they're both musicians.
Looks are getting more and more important for classical musicians, ie: opera stars are getting chosen more and more for their looks than for their actual voice quality. That used not to be the case 30-40 years ago
Ie: Hillary Hahn, one of the most popular violinists:
She's pretty hot. I've seen her in concert twice and would totally be down with being one of her groupies. She's talented but her look and style is definitely part of her appeal.
My ex is an engineer ( undergraduate in electrical; master's in mechanical). Sadly, your description is pretty darn accurate (though his fashion sense has GREATLY improved, thanks to me ).
Oddly enough, the one engineer I knew (we're talking two graduate degrees) decided he'd rather change his MOS to combat rescue and started jumping out of planes for a living when he was in his late 30s. Social liberal, political moderate, too. Adamantly pro-choice, and not convinced we needed to be in Iraq. Not bad for brass.

Oh, it's not so much the intellectual or "class" stuff. It's that I hear a lot of women say they love a man who "works with his hands." That never did anything for me one way of the other. Never found anything sexy about the Marlboro Man type, either. Leathery skin and chewing tobacco aren't my thing.

Well, Marshall, I've always thought highly of you.
