Every few weeks, someone likes to share the stat that women supposedly find most men unattractive.
Let's imagine a world where everyone thought everyone was attractive. When would people get anything done? Everyone would be flirting and trying to attract everyone all day. It would be impossible to read signals because everyone would send signals to everyone. It would be impossible to tell who was paired with who. Everyone would be competing with everyone for the same people.
When people say others should lower their standards, they usually fail to realize that they'll still be competing with everybody between. I think they only want the door opened so they can squeeze through--they don't want it flung wide.

I've had a couple buddies who would try to date girls who were clearly out of their league, looks wise, and the reality for them was that, until they chose to lower their standards (again, looks wise), they were going to be having sex with themselves indefinitely. (blowup dolls notwithstanding)
