There is no handbook to follow, each woman is different and there is a lot of trial and error just like with men.
Put yourself out there and don't be afraid to get your feelings hurt from time to time.
Focus less on "impressing" them and just be a genuinely good human being. You can "impress" a woman by taking her to a fancy dinner, but how you treat her on a day-to-day basis is more important and more impressive. As someone who's regularly taken out to nice places on dates, I'm amazed at how poorly I'm treated by men. The last relationship I was in, I chose to enter because he treated me so well, until that changed...
Maybe realise they are not automatons with instruction manuals where you can learn one or two things that will "impress" them. Rather try treating each person you meet as the individual they actually are - and that might impress them - or have them see you as an individual in turn.
I impressed at least one woman by the fact that I listened to her, and was interested in her, what she thought, wanted out of life, etc. I guess that worked because most people are so into themselves, they just talk about themselves and are not interested in the other people around them.
You can take the materialistic approach and go deep into debt by buying sports cars you cannot actually afford, keeping up with fashion and trendy bullcrap, and be dumb as hell without any goals. You'll only attract high dollar train wrecks.
You can also go the route Davidx mentioned. That is the better route.
Step 1.) Shower
Step 2.) Shave
Step 3.) Buy/find clean clothes that fit
Step 4.) Be around people
Step 5.) Do interesting things because they will make you interesting
Step 6.) ?????
Step 7.) PROFIT!
