We have been together a year and she loves to shop at VS so for her birthday I got her a $100 gift card to it and offered to take her up there and she could shop then get some food. But she got really upset and said I was "thoughtless". I don't understand why she is so upset. I got a gift card to somewhere I know she likes, and I was thinking of her about what she would like.
She may think the gift is more about you than her...in terms of you "benefiting" from her purchases. Do you know that she shops there regularly?
I mean it seems very generous on the surface..but you also make it sound like you're wanting to go with her to shop? Worst case I can see you leering at her while pointing to all the stuff you want to see her in! Maybe she just wants to get some regular undies and not sexy outfits? Or is she just shy? You really need to talk to her to find out what she's thinking.

$100 isn't that much and yes a voucher/gift card is not too thoughtful....
Get down to Cartier or Louis Vuitton and make it right mate
is something getting lost in currency conversion? Cartier? Louis Vuitton?
I'm saying $100 isn't that much to spend on a girlfriend so as she's got the hump get down to ^^^^ and buy something more expensive and lash out for her birthday.
It was a thoughtful gift.
I'm sorry she wasn't more gracious about receiving it.
I dunno. I liked gift cards as a kid. Bc they were basically money.
But as an adult, I feel they are kind of lazy and I'd honestly prefer a gift you put some time and effort into purchasing. Something that makes me think of you when I use it.
I literally am more happy with this stupid 7 dollar ID holder my friend picked for me with my college logo on it (she just saw it and thought of me) than the $50 Best Buy gift card my brother gave me one year. YEARS ago. I still have the damn gift card. I think it's been at least 5 years. I have a drawer full of unused gift cards.
I mean, I think it's nice he got me something and spent money or whatever. But it's just meh.
I would NEVER say that to his face, though. That's not cool.
I agree. A $100 gift card is a very generous gift in my book. And VC isn't expensive; they have tons of cheap crap, including a fashion clothing line.
Exactly.
I think it's a nice present.
Too many people out there who whine about everything.
