You should ask her about that then--tell her you want to keep up with her trip and what she's doing. There's no better way to start a conversation with her at this point than to ask about the trip. She may be starting a blog and you can ask about that too.
A woman who is planning to travel for several months will probably have a few romantic connections along the way. That's part of the fun.
