I am noticing a trend where I am encountering men who are close to retirement or have just retired and make it very clear in their first interaction with you that they are looking for a mate to travel with. They lead with this before even getting to know you and I find this very creepy. It's like they have this plan of what they want to do and are just looking for someone to do it with them. Learning about and getting to know the woman is just a formality, and God forbid, romance is an after though. Just gotta find a lovely lady to go on trips with, especially this one I have already booked. Yuck!
I was talking to a guy for a couple weeks before I went on a trip with him. He wasn't close to retirement age though. I figured if he is a serial killer, at least I will die doing something fun. LOL.

That's just how I feel about it. Can't quite put my finger on it but I've seen it before.
I don't know if you're ever done OLD, but it used to be super common on it. The old: I have a perfect life. Great family, great job, great house, great friends, I'm just looking for the right guy/gal (to insert into it as I vision it).

It is a major turnoff.
I had just a light brush with OLD but yes, I did see that. Same thing. I mean isn't it assumed you already have some sort of life? (One hopes, anyway)...pointing it out and then mentioning that you want to insert an opposite sex-shaped patch into your life quilt is just...I don't know.
Just the way I see it.
But especially when the opposite sex-shaped patch is meant to do one specific thing. Hurry, hurry, step right up, stand here in this X-shaped spot and be the missing piece for me. It just adds an extra level of "no thanks."
Now having interests, mentioning them...well, sure...but the way the OP describes things doesn't really sound like that.
It's hard to explain the difference. It's more a feeling and a vibe (which is what makes the word "creepy" pop up). But I do believe in listening to both of those. I think we have these feelings for a reason. JMO.

Yup, I saw this some in my 30s where the OLD ads were like, I'm looking for the little plastic groomsman to stick on the cake I already know I'm having. It's all planned out. Just missing the guy I want. I'm sure there are equivalents on the other side of the aisle.
I don't find it creepy, I just know it isn't for me.
