I had a situation like that last week and thought it was rude and would probably leave if it ever happens again. Anyone think 2 times is too much for a first meeting?

Meaning they are looking at the phone while on the 1st date?

Maybe a quick 5 secs here and there, but any longer and more frequent...yea pretty rude. Shows lack of interest.

Well, it depends. If the person uses their phone's GPS to get to the restaurant I really wouldn't count that against them. Also, if the person says "My mother is in the hospital so I can't turn my phone off in case of emergency" that is completely different from answering calls from random friends.

Yeah.
Their phone makes an appearance outside of gps or scanning movie tickets in, etc, and I'm outta there.

I even hate it when people take their phones out and lay them on the table. I mean, wth?

Why would they look at their phone at all, unless they have kids at home with a babysitter, or a sick parent, or something? If you go out with that person again, just ask them to leave their phone in the car during the date. If they refuse and are offended--date's over. Walk away. Assume they're just not that into you.

That amuses me, too. It's like, "my phone will be joining us for dinner this evening..."

Exactly. The OP can tell his date, that he dates people, not phones.

Well, the world would end if we don't immediately "like" a picture of an LOLCAT that a friend posted, right ?

I'm going to take it a step further and say I hate it when socializing with friends.
I do tend to be more patient about it, though.
But I won't be friends with someone whose face is constantly in the phone.
