Well, the lunch time has come and passed. So yep, I'm stood up. I feel really sad about it. It sucks to be stood up, especially by your family. And it hurts more to know she could care less. I normally bring my lunch, so now I get to get lunch by myself. : (

I'll try to be an adult and get over it, but it really does hurt.

She sounds like my neice...believe me, YOU & I are living in HER world. She sounds very self-centered & selfish. You can only do so much, and it sounds like you have tried to do plenty for her...Just leave her alone on good terms. That way she knows you will be there when the day comes that she does need you & you won't be holding any resentment towards her. That is what I have decided to do in my case and feel good about my decision as I know I have tried my best.

hey good advice therewego. She is self-centered and selfish. I didn't realize how much until I thought about the last year or so. She is happy to take on things that are given to her for free, but even a nice lunch with her aunt isn't good enough. Funny, too, I was going to take her to an expensive place as a treat. She's really poor I'm sure, living w/another gal and working one-part time job. You'd think she'd jump at the chance to have a good meal (and knowing her aunt would pay).

I just called her and left a msg., trying to sound upbeat and asking her what's up. It was hard to not yell and say, gee thanks. I love being stood up. I love telling my bosses I'm taking an early lunch only to get to tell them I was stood up. Feels really good.

I know what you say is true. I'll have to get over the hurt for today and then do as you advice. My other niece is having her other kid's bday party this weekend, so I might see her then. My plan is to act neutral, but if she brings up the missed lunch, I will tell her (when others aren't listening) that it hurt.

Thanks, I'll try to keep that mentality. It's hard to do so, I certainly wasn't raised that way. I have to keep reminding myself who her mother is.
