Investing in Loss


How can I hope to ever gain that something that I lack
When I can’t see reality - that White is also Black?

If I invest in loss I’ll see a dividend divine
A casting off of edges rough, a cleansing of the mind

It’s emptiness that makes a useful thing out of a cup
If it were full, even a bull could never fill it up

A room invests in loss each day, when people leave that place,
That lone facade is truly odd without that human grace

A man can lose it all, it’s true, and never note the fact
Just as we can, woman or man, be real or merely act

I lost a love this early morn; one that I knew was done,
Where once was two, the split came through and reduced it to one

But in this loss I harvested, I feel a certain gain
I can relax, smoke a few packs and exorcise my brain

So why do I feel emptiness does not quite suit my soul?
Do I deceive when I perceive that I am still not whole?

Perhaps one day I’ll reach the peak of emptiness and bliss
But on this day, I’m not OK, and love is what I miss
