...is coming up on Jan. 26th closely followed by Valentine's Day. The wife asked me what did I want for both dates and I told that I'd like to get a few accessories for my new car. She told me it was OK for me to get them as long as she gets her present (s) equaling the amount of money I spend. I don't know what to do because I used to tune cars and this hobbie tends to be expensive and I don't want to be cheap with her at the same time not over spend money.

Figure out how much you can afford to spend on both of you. Divide that in half and that's what you spend on yourself.

At least, that's what an adult would do.

Kinda weird she requested a similar money value? It seems it should be the thought that counts. It's good she asked you what you wanted to save time. What's your question? I guess you could always go with jewelry. I'm sure that will even out. Or a weekend away?
Ask her what she wants, takes the romance out, but if it's easier, then just ask her.

So if I do the opposite of what you posted I wouldn't be considered an adult?

She does want jewelry.

Spend less on yourself that way you don't overspend. Make it appear equal. I'm sure it does not have to be dollar for dollar. Right???

Might I just add my 2 pennies...

Never in my life have I... or would I, say something like "my present should be of equal value to yours".

Maybe I'm just weird... but I like presents from the heart. See something you think I might like and ya get it for me.

Price tags coming into play... wow. Just wow. Kinda takes the "I love you" out of it.

Good luck with that!

She knows how much you spend on your cars and toys doesn't she Mr. Cat? :

Men's toys seem to be much more expensive then women's according to some anyway.

Do the right thing and spend lots of money on her
