The reason for this post is because I've gotten many replies on craigslist for new friend but nobody has followed through with anything, one guy saw the ad and called me up and mentioned he was going to cut his wrists 3 times I was like OMG I said friend not mental patient....so I'm like ok they are missing out and wasting my time ....so I'm just going to give up on that.....my family members have given up on making new friends years ago and I should probably follow in their footsteps...

YES! But not for the reasons you stated. I feel that you will find the right guy to be in a relationship eventually, and it will be when you least expect it. Hunting for love is a very frustrating endeavor. It's best to just live your life focusing on other goals and leave the love stuff to it happening when it happens.

I had a friend who felt this way before he met me I felt that way a little bit when i first got divorced. The internet is no place to hope to make friends. Not because people online are mostly bad, but the medium just doesn't lend itself to making friendships that are lasting although it does happen.

I discovered shortly after my divorce after I moved in to my apartment that if I did things I was interested in (surfing, soccer, kayak trips, live poetry) that there were other people there. NOW THE CLINCHER: You *gulp* have to approach these people, smile, and be friendly. The BEST way to do it is to ask them a question about themselves (we're humans and we love to talk about us..LOL) pertaining to the shared interest. IE:

Me: Umm, Hi, I'm Angel. I have never seen a kayak like that one, it's so cool. What is it?
Them: Oh, hi..it's a foldable.
Now..many times after your initial question people don't know what else to say. You approached them you have to keep it going.
Me: Hm. I'm going to have to check out maybe getting one? Do you have any tips on brands or where to go?
Them: Now feeling flattered that you think they're smart I usually go to The ProShop on Alt 19; but they only sell.....

Yeah..many people forget to smile and be friendly first (that's what I was getting at). Instead, you wind up having a bunch of people sticking only with people they already know or by themselves waiting for someone else to make the first move.

It's not easy, but it's doable. One of my 'tricks' to get people to be friendly with me is that I make sure to have a 'slight' smile on my face when I'm out and keep my chin up and my arms uncrossed. If done right you look open and like you're having a good time. Of course, if done wrong you look like you're on something

When I'm in a good mood I usually wave and that has worked in the past.

i would never go to a bar to meet friends - get involved, oodles of friends to be had at work, at church, at the store. the most important thing is to BE a friend. there are always going to be the connivers, the users, the liars. just sidestep them and go about your merry way.

1) Don't give up to have friends , friendship is important in your life, You need one or two friends maximum and try to choose them carefully . Beware don't give your trust so fast.
2) continue your daily life ( studying- working) until you can find your lover and don't be on rush .It will happen soon .
I almost don't have any friends right now and I feel so lonely and sad ,but I could not continue with them anyway .
So we need people ( friends ,lovers) if we want it or not.
