Has anyone here dated a coworker? How did it turn out?

I know in the beginning it can be cool, but, what about when you break up but still have to see each other in the office?

Anyone marry a coworker?

Ive done it. As long as you both know when to put on the brakes if things start getting a bit heavy. And...as long as you both agree its just dating and one doesnt start getting dillusions of grandeur.

I did it. It didn't end well. Work was awkward to say the least

I know quite a few people who met their future spouse at work. But while they were dating, they kept it very discreet.

Yeah...

All's Well, that Ends Well

but when it doesn't...

My job is more important to me than any dating.

Yep, met the wife at work and stayed together 15 years.

And no, we (she, really ) weren't very discreet during the courtship - unless you could call her slinking into my lab in a short red dress and heels and yelling "Where IS he?!?" discreet...

We actually had an official cheering section.

Don't do it. It's like you never leave the office. And if things get intense for a while and then don't work out, not only are staff meetings awkward, but you are fodder for office gossip.

The risks are not worth the reward, esp. if the 2 of you work in close quarters (e.g. see each other on a daily or weekly basis). Sure, if you're in accounting and the chick works in HR and you'd hardly see each other while at work, then it's probably an acceptable risk. (Even then, it's a risk, b/c if the relationship sours, she can sort of ruin you.) But if the 2 of you work in the same dept. definitely don't do it! I know of a few people who dated within the dept. and it usually didn't work out, thereby leading to a lot of awkwardness between them. Yes, I know of some who've also gotten married b/c they met each other at work, but they typically were not in the same dept.
