Perhaps so... still hardly the overwhelming majority, IMO.

I think that the increase in commitment-phobic males is a sign of the times and NOT as rooted in the desire to avoid relationships.

There are probably 2 reasons that men DON'T take it to the next level:
(1) financial, as has been listed, and
(2) one that a divorced friend of mine from So. Cal. sent to me via an e-mail attached article -- that men don't want to commit to someone who might not be the person they thought they were marrying so they feel they made the wrong choice.

Women could probably experience these as well, with (1) not being as common for them.

well said after 42 million "terrible misunderstandings" (divorce) since 1975, there is doubt and a creeping distrust between the sexes. the glue is just not as strong. i think when ownership of how we got here begins to creep in, we will move forward.

Well, in my situation at least, my bf's parents have been married for 40+ years, which is a good thing, but on the other hand, being a firefighter and standing by over the years watching co-worker after co-worker go through often nasty divorces, I can certainly understand he'd have to be crazy to want to take the same risk, and would prefer to ride it out without putting his freedom, financial security, and peace of mind in jeapardy. Thanks for your input.
