I'm kinda the same way. I never have anything in mind as far as what I really want, so I'm surprised (and honored) when someone gets me something nice I may not have expected.

Hopefully people would know you well enough to pick out something you would like!? I happen to be a great gift giver!
thank goodness for gift cards, though nowadays!

I feel likewise. I love giving way more than I receive, but I truly enjoy the sentiment that someone took their time for me. Means a lot. Even the gifts that require a crinkle of the brow, well, that person did not have to extend their own self at all to begin with. So those are just as embraced and appreciated as well. It's about the symbolism, the gesture. The only person that can shop without flaw is for yourself. I have no understanding for those who have a feeling of superiority when receiving gifts, that they are way above such 'mediocrity.'

come on ya'all its not what they get u..it's the fact that someone took the time to buy you something at all. I've got some of the craziest gifts but I was still just as happy as the good gifts..it gave me something to laugh about later on. One time my ex-mama-in-law bought me sweatpants that were so big I would of had to weight 250 pounds to even begin to fill them..i laughed my happy heiny off over that..now i could of looked at it as she saw me as a fat cow (which she may of lol) but instead I had a good laugh at it and gave them to someone who could wear them..
Oh and for those of you that don't like what you get just send them my way..i'm easy to please lol

oh I hate registries too! I follow what's on there, but I usually pick out an additional small "from the heart" gift. you're right, it takes the fun out.
also, I don't even want a registry when I get married. I don't want to get a bunch of duplicate toasters, etc. I don't have a need for china settings, or silver, etc!!

I never really know what I want if someone asks...but I like getting gifts! My husband is a great gift giver and he always puts so much thought into his gifts...except the time he bought me a Dremel tool...
