i went out to meet a guy i've known from online for a few months for the first time at dennis. we ordered something small and by the time we leaving, he left 1 dollar tip on the table and asked if i have 1 dollar to leave as a tip too.....i was like#£€¥#€but sure i have 1 dollar so i left 'my part' of the tips. he then went to the front and paid the whole thing . i offered to pay back my half but he said no......but why the 1 dollar tip?

i didn't feel comfortable at all, i mean, come on it's just 1 dollar. can't he just pay for it?
i felt embarrassed also because he did the ask then i ended up paying for my own tip.

any thoughts?

This post brought a smile to my face. My husband did the same thing to me our first date. On our second date I asked him why he asked me to leave the tip and he told me he had no small bills.
If you like him just ask him why.

Yes it might have been that he didn't think $1 was really any kind of deal and didn't want to have to come all the way back to the table to leave it if you happened to have one handy.

Default common

It's common for the other person to pick up the tip if the bill is being paid.

If I pay, I would hope the other party doesn't mind paying the tip. Most likely he didn't have any small bills.

It was your first date. He payed for your dinner/meal, the least you can do is leave a tip. More than $1.00 would do to - 20%-25% of the bill.
