OK, since MoMark, Gizmo and ScrantonwilkesBarre are all 'red heads', I have a question...
My kids have this very bad habbit of making me feel older than dirt lately...they tell me 'red heads' are called gingers. Has anyone ever heard of that? My younger daughter has a thing for 'gingers', and it's so funny because my only neice on my husbands side of the family was also attracted to red heads, as early as kindergarten. She didn't marry a red head, she's now 25, but he's real irish and some siblings have the red hair.

I always thought "ginger" was a British term for different shades of red hair, usually on the lighter side. I don't think it's used in America as I've never heard the term used here except for cats.

I think it stems from this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginger_Kids

With that said, I too had never heard of it being used in daily conversation to describe a redhead, and I'm not all that far removed from the high school age crowd. Maybe it's a Pennsylvania thing.

I've never heard of it either. I had auburn hair when I was growing up, but now it's more blonde/red/brown (so is that ginger?). Guess I too am out of the loop.

I have added a couple of new friends thanks to CD. One is a cool outdoorsy person that moved in my area and actually has shown ME alot of great locations around MY own stomping grounds lol Another is a wonderful person who has young children like myself. Now I have someone to share all those funny kid stories and tidbits about life in general. I have been going through a rough divorce and feeling kind of dislocated so these two members have been great to have in my life.
