I always thought men talked about this subject only when a woman wanted to talk about it. It really surprised me to see that men took this stuff almost as serious as talking about football, or hunting. I guess I assumed that men talked about it with their female friends, but were unwilling to discuss it as a topic of everday interest. So I was surprised.
The smart ones of us out here don't wait for a lady to initiate the talking.. Lol, in my case if I didn't get things out in the open the pot boils over ricky tick. I actually only have one female friend that I can talk to when I need a different perspective on ...matters of the heart , as it were. I must admit that when I need to get well thought out solution to a disagreement with my wife she is the one I talk to. Most of my male compatriots tend to shoot it from the hip a bit more whereas my female friend will give me a more...diplomatic...take. Lol, if I go and talk to her I've gotten myself sleeping in the barn for one reason or another, and usually don't understand just what it was that I did. What seems a little thing to a man may not be so little to a woman.

Default Dating, marriage, boyfriends, girlfriends, men, women...

As a long-time lurker, I finally feel the need to post!

I think there are a certain percentage of us guys out there who do feel a need to talk about the "deeper issues." You might not guess that from the way the media portrays us sometimes -- the only things that interest us apparently are sex, booze, sports, and gadgets....

As others have said, places like CD are important because you can ask the "big questions" without feeling vulnerable or like you're being melodramatic. Most workplace conversation revolves around the weather, sports, politics, celebrities, what's on TV, etc. I would probably put people into an awkward silence if I asked "What should I be doing with my life?" or "How should I go about meeting women?"

I come here to read posts by confused people with crazy problems.

Then I make sarcastic, smartass comments and feel really good about myself.

I think perhaps yellowsnow ought to give some of these men she works with a chance. It's quite possible to be interested in sports and books, and be willing to talk about relationships. Really!

At any rate, internet forums are probably likely to attract the more inward-looking and articulate amongst us. So that might be part of the reason.
