The only thing I can say is..Girls , don't get married unless you have a carreer to fall back on!!!Naturally my advice isn't all warm and fuzzy, but it may keep you from being stuck for eighty years.
That goes both ways! I have been the major bread winner in my marriage for nearly all of its 29 years. I am married to someone with no ambition to further himself yet tells our children regularly that they have to go to college. Sounds pretty funny coming from someone nearly incapable of making over $10/hr.
I do not want to be married to someone that can't remember when the other's birthday is and especially not for 80 years.

I wonder if they still actually like each other though? A lot of old people have a more tolerant relationship than a good one. Kind of the "I'm stuck with you" attitude. Having said that, my grandparents were married for 68 yrs I think before she passed. He is going to be 95 in October.
I would like it. I would settle for 50! Every golden party our family threw for the old folks...well...everyday stuff they would bicker like anyone else..But to see them going all goo-goo eyes at each other at the party with the "we made it" smile while cutting the cake. Thats just plain old nice as it gets. My one uncle pinched my aunts butt after she cut the cake just to embarass her. It was so cute.
Do people actually live that long, after marriage, or maybe they married really young??
Well, since my Grandad is almost 95 and my Nana was in her late 80's when she passed away, I'd say longevity has a lot to do with it. He was military and she was a farm girl. They lived through the depression, The Korean War, WWII, and then my dad was in Vietnam, and he was their youngest child. Their oldest is ready to retire himself.
The people in the article probably did marry really young, and are likely to be in their 90's.
I would love to be married to my spouse for 80 years! I would love to look back and say I wouldn't change a thing and I married the love of my life. We can take our medications together.
When I asked for my wife's hand I promised to be a loving husband in this life and the next. So as far as being married they are still newly weds.
