I recently got my haircut and had an interesting conversation with the women who cuts my hair. She was telling me that I was so friendly and talkative and expressed her thanks. She went on to say that most of her customers treat her like the hired help and only talk to her if necessary. Those customers who walked in and did not know her were even less communicative.
She is a very friendly and interesting person with strong communication skills and is quite attractive. I would not know why so many people are so unfriendly. Maybe it is a class issue. Because she is quite expensive most of her customers are well paid professionals and they may think even though she makes good money they are a different class than her.
So, what is your personal relationship with the man or woman who cuts your hair?
I don't get my hair done, but some people just aren't talkers. I'm not one. Not that I wouldn't be friendly and smile, or have a few questions/comments here and there, but it's just not in me to chat away with people. Believe me, I've tried.
So, while some people may just have an attitude, I'm sure it's not all of them.
I have found the tables to be turned around for me.
I am good at small talk, but lately the women that have cut my hair don't say much.
It used to be that part of the job was to learn how to make small talk.
That is what people remembered and why they came back specifically to have you cut their hair.
I think that plain old friendliness and small talk have gone by the way of the dinosaur.
My hairdresser, my nail lady and the lady who gives me massages and facials are all my friends and we go out shopping and to lunch together. Yes - all three of these ladies know each other too. We're all friends.
If I manage to stay awake, I talk a bit, usually about local politics, but then I go to a barber.
