I recently met a guy who told me that he has a girlfriend but that it is not serious and that it is "just sex". I kept saying to myself if this guy is stupid or what because how is sex not serious? Isn't sex how people get lifetime diseases such as genital herpes, hiv and other STDs?????? That's not a serious issue? If he goes to the doctor and he has to pay $300 to be seen and another $200 for the prescription drugs to cure the STD, isn't that serious, especially if he is uninsured? Maybe the men on this forum can weigh in and help me understand the complex brain of men. Women can weigh in too if they understand men better than me.

Sex, or making tuna salad sandwiches, can be as serious as you both want to make them be. Or not.

No it isn't.
Sex is (often) INCIDENTAL to the acts of stupidity and irresponsibility that are CAUSAL to those things.

The terms to focus on are physiology and biology.
You many be confusing them with something related to morality or maybe this guys definition of "girlfriend" in all that.
If so, that is likely where your error lies.

Pretty messed up relationship if you ask me.

But as someone just said, some people make a big deal out of it, others don't.

I do make a deal out of it but hey, if that guy wants to live that way, that's his choice.

End of story.

I'm a (heterosexual) woman, and happen to agree with this statement... sex is just an act, and it's everything that surrounds it which becomes "serious." I've had a few casual relationships myself, and despite popular belief, not all women become emotionally attached after having sex. In fact, I'm usually the one who resists getting too serious! As for STDs, those are the result of being irresponsible, not (solely) the result of being sexually casual.

Are you just assuming he/they are not using a raincoat? Why assume anything? What's wrong with just sex? I played baseball tonight. Was it "just" a game? It's just something people do. Live and let live. Why is everyone hung up on sex? Some of you fuddy duddies would die a thousand times if you seen the difference in how other cultures view sex so openly.

Don't we all have more important things to worry about?

NO, no. With her. I guess he was trying to tell me he is not committed to her and that to him it is purely physical.

You worry about something important, I'll think about sex.
