Women raise their children and then want to return to going out, having fun and having sex.
About that same time, their husbands are settling into a sedentary life style and aren't interested (or interesting) anymore.
So, the women are forced to look elsewhere, and luckily there are plenty of young guys looking to have fun.
Most women I know that have dated much younger guys have said that they are hot but NOT interesting....just way too much of a maturity and mental mismatch.
My view of cougaring is that it's just for sex.
The old stereotype of the guy hitting 40, dumping the wifey for the secretary and splitting has given way over the years. I hear of a lot more gals having the mid-life crisis and going full cougar than the guy doing it anymore.
It's easier for women around that age to find casual sex partners than men too.

For those that have a problem with the term Cougar....its not that different than bachelor for a single male..... its just a convenient term, so you can make a point without having to elaborate.
I believe that this kind of relationship has always existed due to various reasons but has not been widely accepted or popular until Demi Moore and Ashton acctually started dating and got married...... i believe that the words cougar and MILF might or might not came from the porn industry but it surely made it popular....here are some reasons why women might date younger men:
1) Since most men goes for younger women, older women feels like they can do the same with the younger men
2) sex....believes that younger guy is more sexually active, to make up for experience
3) perhaps it helps the women feel younger
4) most importantly though, it is to prove to herself that she still "got it"
5) or it just might be pure love
Glad to hear that women can take pride is lowering themselves these days.
