The irony of all of it is that Larry the Cable Guy isn't even Southern, he's a Nebraskan performing an act that makes him a ton of money. The OP lost all credibility with me when he referred to himself as Frasier and the people around him as Larrys.
There are classy people in small towns as well as rednecks in any part of the country. With 26,000 people, it's not like the guy is in the middle of nowhere. Now, 1,000 people, then I'd feel sorry for him.
I'm one of the 60's NY to Fla transplants that wound up in small town TN. Without listing them all I've lived in a lot of other states as well.
Let me say that since we are all the sum of our personal life experiences we can't successfully fake fitting in in a place foreign to us. You may be intelligent, but if you can't relate then you would best suit your needs by not rushing it.
My best advice would be........
Keep most of your thoughts to your self, fight the urge to one up them, realize that your accomplishments are just that.....yours!
One of the things us Yankees need to come to terms with is that if we are truly happy we don't need to rub any ones nose in it. This is really hard for some, pride is great but so is humble.
