Yes, I do believe in Karma. I don't believe every bad thing that happens is due to Karma though. I do believe people that do terrible things will eventually get theirs, even if it's just to be on their death bed with no one by their side.
It's an idealistic concept to think that if a person does bad things, then bad things will happen to them. I've known some very horrible people who have died peacefully in their sleep at a ripe old age. While some really good people have lived a life of hardship and suffering. If you believe that karma exists for people who do bad things, then what about karma for people who live a very simple and honest life and are kind to others? Do they get good karma? From my experience I haven't seen that, at least not across the board. If you live your life as a bad person, then it stands to reason that the law of averages catches up with you and something bad will happen to you. I do not believe there is some mystical entity at play and that it somehow intervenes and hands out justice to random individuals. The same way you make your own heaven and hell right here on earth, you make your own karma.
I've alway believed we need to be kind and helpful to others on this planet. Never hurt others and go out of our way to aid people. I try to practice this every day. I don't know if this necessarily does anything for me in return but it makes me feel better.
Sometimes I have doubts about this whole thing. I've seen horrible things happen to good people and wonderful things happen to people who are out and out evil.
Here's my best story. I have a good friend who lives in Portland. About 10 years ago, she was in a wheelchair and was told she could only expect to live another couple years without surgery. She was married and had children. She just didn't have the money. She was very active and did a lot of volunteer work at her church. Her minister suggested they start holding benefits to hopefully pay for her operation.
She reluctantly agreed and helped her minister set up the benefit. They did what they could to get the word out and advertise. $100 was deposited in the bank to open an account. The day before the benefit, she called the bank to make sure people could deposit to the account and everything was working properly. She checked the balance over and over. There was 18K in that bank account. She cried, she laughed, she screamed. Some unknown person had given her the money she needed so badly.
She flew to Spain and had her surgery. The operation was less expensive there and she found a top notch surgeon. By the time she left Spain she was free of the wheelchair. 10 years later, she is happy and healthy.
My friend never found out who paid for her surgery. All she knows is that it was one anonymous donation. She doesn't want to know. She figures if that person wanted her to know they would have told her.
Way to many inconistancies in Karma. Too many people not deserving the bad get the bad. Many deserving the bad, get nothing.
