I don't get it either. God, I can't think of anything worse than my kids finding it. Well, having it all over the internet would be worse, but no video of me would be of interest unless there was a "freaky grandmother" website.
I totally agree with the OP and the posters... Why would u tape yourself? U know it's going to come back and to haunt you. What I don't get is why would a smart man like Edward's did such a dumb thing. He is rich and powerful and the one with the most to lose. The woman could always use the tape to blackmail Edward's. Why would he give a some chic you he was messing around with that kind of power?
Yes, John Edwards is a smart man, but he is a user who is wrapped up in his own importance. He thought he could do anything he wanted and get away with it and he nearly did. People like this scare me because they are very charismatic and will say and do anything to get what they want. They have no moral compass or compassion for others. Their wants and needs are paramount and they will bulldoze anyone who gets in their way. There are a lot of rich, powerful people who fit this profile. It's sad.
It makes me think that more people tape themselves than we realize. I wouldn't want to. But maybe I'm in the minority.
I was at a conference a few years back and somehow the convo got steered towards this subject...think it might have been around the time some celeb sex tape had just come out. Anyway, I was blown away by how many people in our group of a dozen or so had actually taped themselves and their spouse/SO having sex! None of them (3 women, 2 men) were worried that it would fall into the wrong hands...which IMO is very naive and foolish. One of the gals who had done this went through a very bad and bitter divorce two years ago and I wondered if she was freaking out about this tape hitting the internet. Her ex was just the type to do that. You just never know what someone else will do.

Oh, I'm sure there's probably something like that somewhere on the internet! I'm not going to do a search to find out, though. lol
Ok, saw all of the coverage of the John Edwards affair tonight and now, once again, we hear there's a "sex tape." And both parties are very anxious to get it back!
Why on Earth are people stupid enough to videotape their "activities?" Why people like this, in particular, who have a WHOLE lot to lose if the tape is discovered (and it usually is, eventually)?
I don't care if you're married or having an affair, young or old, rich or poor, videotaping yourselves having sex is probably the dumbest thing a couple can ever do because of the ramifications the minute the relationship hits a pothole. So why do a lot of people still do it?
I've often wondered the same thing. I can only assume that at least ONE of the parties involved is a bit on the skanky side, and dumb as a rock to boot.
I can't imagine why anyone would do it...period. I don't care how old you are or how hot you are...do folks sit around watching video of themselves having sex?
Who does that unless you plan to post it on the Internet? What is the point?
Yes. My ex husband and I taped ourselves a lot to enjoy it at a later time. I liked watching us more than porn. I'm an exhibitionist, so I love having the camera on. My ex still has most of our tapes, and he still watches them. Even after 5 years, he'd still rather watch us than regular porn.
Even being an exhibitionist, I have never posted anything on the internet where anyone could see (except pics, and you have to have my password to see them). I enjoy taping with the man I'm with, and then us watching it together. Except for my ex husband, there's only one other man I did this with, and when our relationship ended, I destroyed the video.
So while some of you may not understand it, or enjoy it, yes, there are others who do. I do think though that people in power or celebrities are taking a big chance at doing it.

Your post is right on the money. There are legions of people who video/photo themselves and post it on the internet and consequently, there is an ocean of amateur porn online with countless anonymous faces, one ultimately indistinguishable from the next.
The ONLY time it becomes an issue is if the person(s) doing it is famous, notable, or in a profession or position where such behavior would be considered inappropriate (i.e. a politician, religious minister). Given is exceptional prominence, John Edwards was S-T-U-P-I-D for doing a sex tape. But the fact that a millionaire former U.S. Senator would video himself doing the bone dance is testament to how common such an act has become
And don't forget, sex tapes helped the "careers" of some people (e.g. Paris Hilton, Pam Anderson). Such sexploits practically seem to be de rigueur these days for the hot, up-and-coming Hollywood "bad girl" (or boy). Though it certainly is not the classiest thing to do, I don't see what the big of it is. It's only sex.
I've done it when I was in a serious relationship, and it was fun. I am not so full of myself to think that an internet leak of my video on will matter a whit to anyone. I'm not famous, I'm not rich, I'm not a role model... nobody knows who I am and nobody cares. If my ex-husband were to post it online I wouldn't be the slightest bit embarrassed, though I'd be mad at him for invading my trust.
