Just curious, this is what has been said to me recently by my bf of less than 1 yr:
-In his experience, he will not find a better woman out there.
-I am a good girlfriend, that is why he is with me.
-He will not cheat or leave me for another woman, however, he will not commit to not meeting new female friends to communicate with (online, etc- NOT from personal ads or anything) becasue he likes to keep his options open. (WTF)
-Says there is no point to cheat or leave for another woman becasue all his relationships turn out the same.
"I'm with you because I'm convinced you are the best I can get/find. However, in the chance I find someone better, I reserve the right to dump your ass. In the meantime, I will keep my **** in my pants."

He wants to have his cake and eat it too. Should things go sour, he can dump you at-will but come to his senses later on and you'll welcome him with open arms.

for whatever reasons he is deciding he does not want to committ to plan B right now. It may be that he isn't sure about his expectations, and whether he can "do better" by whatever standards he has. But he wants you to stay plan B just in case he can't find somebody he likes better.
If I were you I would find a new plan A, but I suppose that depends on what you want with your life.

Generally what I'm saying is this: He knows he's got a good woman in you so he's not going to do anything to mess it up. Should things go sour through no fault of your own, he will leave you and find someone he thinks is a better fit. At the same time, he may realize that you were the best thing he ever had should this other chick give him grief and will leave her, then try to get back with you.
