Sorry for the long story but mine is, Motorcycle mama! I once spent $200 on a leather jacket from Jay Jacobs (remember that store ladies?). After about the 3rd or 4th time wearing it I caught a glimpse of myself in my brothers full length mirror and stopped dead in my tracks. "Does this jacket make me look like a motorcycle mama?", I asked him. He looked a little taken aback and replied, "I thought you were". I took the jacket off then and there and gave it away.
A man can be called ugly because he has an unappealing face, but he can have other qualities that might be appealing to other women.
Cute, however, is an inherently feminine quality that implies a certain overall demeanor and/or body type that most women don't find attractive.
Put another way, calling a man "cute" is just like calling a woman "masculine".
I know enough women to know that "cute" is basically fall-back compliment for when women feel compelled to compliment a guy, but the guy lacks any other compliment-worthy features and they don't want to hurt his feelings.
I don't think "cute" is feminine at all. "Cute" is childish or infantile or immature. Like you said in your first post, babies are cute, puppies are cute. Justin Bieber is cute. Adult men and women called cute are usually nonthreatening, but not sexy. It might not be a total compliment, but it's not an insult.

Not so much words--but perceptions.
1-I never want to be thought of as a bad parent
2-I never want to be thought of as not caring for those less fortunate than myself.
