Having been married for well over a decade now, I know one thing for sure: people outside a marriage never, NEVER, N-E-V-E-R know the full story of what's going on INSIDE the marriage.

All the speculation about the marriage of public personalities is just meaningless, time-killing poppycock.

That's too bad. 40 years is a pretty good record though. I doubt this was an easy decision for them. Some people get married 3 times in 40 years. The right-wing blowhards like Limbaugh are already saying it was because of Al's obsession with global warming. Whatever. As if Rush ever knew what he was talking about.

I agree. Why should it be a topic of general conversation anyway? Rhetorical question, gossip is major fodder particularly when celebrities and political figures are concerned!

Who really gave a rat's patootie when Gladys down the street separated from or divorced "good old Fred" after 40 years of marriage? Everybody knew for years that they disliked each other but put on a good front for the kids' sakes. Never mind that Fred Jr was busted right after high school on a major drug charge and copped a 10-15 while little Melanie got done for accessory to murder, prostitution, and a few other things which put her inside for 15-20. Jimmy got a football scholarship, is now playing in the major leagues and close to a hugely lucrative retirement package. Paul completed his doctorate in anthropology and has forged a successful career in one of the most highly respected institutions.

Some people wonder why Gladys and Fred stayed together for so long despite their differences. Their kids wonder why too. Who really knows? Peer pressure and keeping up with the Jones's in general is so damned silly and so unproductive.

The plastic life where celebs are concerned is easy to maintain. The wealth ensures that living apart even under the same vast roof is so easy as long as the outside world only views the facade.

And who would even give one little bit of credence to whatever Rush Limbaugh has to say about anything under the sun. Oops, sorry, I guess many people.

It just goes to show that those looking for their soul mate and holding off until they do and then getting married and all that living by traditional means often they haven't secured anything in the end.

It is why I don't relate to those that remain a virgin until they are 40 years old because they were waiting until they found the "right one". And then what?, 20 years later your "right one" says "I want a divorce".
