Why is there an assumption that everyone wants eternal life?

That's just it! Not everyone does. And I would like to know why some do. I can accept that death would be The End. Final. But it seems that a lot of people can't. They want more. Why? Is the state of not-being something that they don't want to think about?

If there is nothing.....then they won't know, won't see, won't feel, have knowledge of, nothing. So what is the problem?

To me, it sort of like the North Pole or Africa. It doesn't matter if they exist or not. I don't plan on going to either place.

If I could stay at, say, 35 years old for eternity (and stay here on Earth as a corporeal being), I might go for it. But that ship has sailed.

An eternity of praising a god doesn't appeal to me in the least.

That reminds me of a thread that we had here a while back. The question was (I think) "how will you spend eternity?" Someone replied that they would spend in on their knees bowing before God.

Nothing else??? I can't imagine an eternity, much less one where you don't do but one thing.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Heaven

The part on the beatific vision seems to indicate you might not only learn everything you want, but you may also learn everything that's possible. Although the wording is a bit hard to follow at times. In addition "Moreover, the blessed see each other and rejoice in the company of those whom death separated from them." So at least in Catholicism Heaven apparently includes several things and not just one thing.
