I enjoy having days off as much as the next guy, but the rational for this holiday seems a little contrived. I can think of dozens of things that are more deserving of celebration than this harvest festival.

But happy Thanksgiving, none-the-less.

I had a very pleasant Thanksgiving, and I hope everyone else around here did too, even those with whom I disagree vociferously.

I sure hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Day and are having a great Thanksgiving Weekend.
Thanks Rifleman for this thread.

Thanksgiving is just something that can be part of our personal constitution. Some people are thankful types, some are not. It does not have to be thankfulness to a specific diety, or anything like that. It is just a sense of thankfulness, like this quote
"Life without thankfulness is devoid of love and passion. Hope without thankfulness is lacking in fine perception. Faith without thankfulness lacks strength and fortitude. Every virtue divorced from thankfulness is maimed and limps along the spiritual road." -John Henry Jowett

From the "Because You're Supposed To" department:
Is being thankful something you can be prompted to do? Or, you either are or you aren't?

Seems kind of silly or verbalize what you already know or (fake it) verbalize what you don't feel at all.

Are you going to do anything about what you are truly thankful for just because there is a holiday?

Are you not thankful the other 364 days of the year?

What percent of the four day thanksgiving holiday is spent being thankful versus taking it easy and not having to go to work and going nuts over a meal?
Do you love anyone less on days other than Valentine's day?

If everyone loves christmas music, how come nobody listens to it in July?
