Maybe I missed it in another forum topic, but I was curious to see what both believers and non-believers thought of the movie [i]Jesus Camp[i]. As an atheist, I obviously don't attend church, but I am interested to know if that type of "programming" is as widespread as the movie made it seem or is it just a small "cult" of people. I am interested to hear feedback on this.
It is a documentary about a "Jesus Camp" in South Dakota I believe. It should be in your local video store, if not you can order it on amazon or something. It is astonishing to watch. Definitely worth the money, I promise.
I posted about Jesus Camp in a forgotten thread but it didn't go anywhere.
I was blown away by the kids in the documentary. That choreographed "battle" dance was kinda scary.
Have you heard anything about this place? Battle Cry
Here is an article about it:

WOW! That kind of stuff really makes me wonder. That's why I wanted to know if it was just a small organization like this or if it was really this big. It's scary to think that so many people could be warped in this way. It is NOT UNLIKE the radical islamist groups.
I think in any religion there will be extremists. The people who run this camp and the parents that send their children to suffer through it are definitely examples of this.
as a born again fundamentalist baptist, I can say that I have been to hundreds of churches and church camps in the US and never encountered that behavior before

I'm pretty sure that the camp featured in the documentary (it was also featured on either 20/20 or Primetime - whichever does the "outsider" series and the camp is real, not just a made up place) is rare to say the least. I also think most people of the fundamental christian faiths viewed it as extreme...even my in-laws and you can't get more right wing extremist christian then they are.
My understanding of it is that they are of the Pentacostal faith. I know that there are SCORES of pentacostal churches all over America. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is: Is this what the Pentacostal faith preaches? Is it normal to speak in tongues in this type of church?
