I once read where one RCC priest proclaimed the Adam and Eve creation story repugnant to an intelligent Christian.I guess he didn't get your memo.
Oh, darn - but being a smartass is so much fun!!!!!

Lots of Anglicans and Episcopalians accept evolution as well.Even the Eastern Orthodox Church, which is about as hidebound as you can get, does not consider individuals accepting evolution sinful or in error. When you do the math, you are talking about a LARGE segment of Christianity.People like to pretend the Protestant fundies and wackos are the majority of Christianity. They are not, especially outside of the US.

Jeffington,

Here is a pretty good paper documenting creation views through the church's history and how the science of Geology affected certain views.

Paper - Michael Roberts: Genesis and Geology Unearthed History

Have you ever seen that Lewis Black bit where he is going on about his fellow jews on the writing of Genesis? He said that being a Jew himself, he knows that one thing that the Jews were really good at is BS and that the reason that Moses, etal. gave these stories in Genesis to the Hebrews, while wandering in the desert, was to keep their minds off the fact that they didn't have air-conditioning. WHile being over the top crass and going for the humor, he is not too far off.

I would say in most of them there is no dogmatic declaration either way,and it is left up to the individual. You will no doubt find folks in almost every one listed that do accepted A&E,but the church just doesn't require it as a tenet of faith that must be believed.

Understood. I was just wondering how those that don't accept the A&E myth squared that with the crucifixion/resurrection nonsense. Something along the lines of:

No A&E = No original sin.
No original sin = Nothing for Jesus to save them from.
Nothing for Jesus to save them from = No need for the Jesus character to die.

No death = No crucifixion.
No crucifixion/resurrection = No basis for Christianity.

Just work your way through it and keep it as a reference. You don't have to read it at one sitting.
