No man knows the day or the hour. We don't set dates.Especially before the load of stuff in Revelation happens. I don't believe in any date within the next 3 years definitely not May 21 or October 21st and I'll feel perfectly fine saying "I never said that" when people try to pin May 21st or October 21st or 12/21/12 on me. I do however believe that there will be a time when you can look at the signs and say that its definitely within some years (rather than decades) I see this as a time when everyone believes in something and atheism as a thing of the past. Signs as described in Revelation will certainly be impossible (not difficult, impossible) to explain away or ignore.
Bear in mind, SOMEBODY is eventually going to be right. At some point all human life on earth will get wiped out. Whether that's the rapture -- which I have a number of doubts about -- or something else is irrelevant. If the Sun changes gears and shifts into a red giant, then the Sun will expand out and swallow the earth. The Yellowstone Super-Volcano could go off. A comet or asteroid could smash into the earth.
Sooner or later, one of these specifically dated predictions is going to be right!! It's inevitable!!
I call December 3rd, 2055! If the world ends then, I get to be right!
The Yellowstone supervolcano has erupted three times -- all three during the existence of the genus Homo. A futher eruption is highly unlikely to eliminate the species.

It would surely ruin your day, though...
It probably won't end the species, but it will probably create a serious die-off and a population bottleneck similar to the Toba eruption about 70-odd thousand years ago. Basically everything between the Sierra Madres and the Appalachians will be buried in several feet of ash, and anyone relying on food grown in the Midwest (which is a lot of people) is going to have to come up with alternatives in a hurry.

But it will surely eliminate civilization, globally.
