My church has a huge problem.

I attend a small country church that has a fiberglass baptistry. It is very stained and corroded with mineral deposits. The water circulates through the hot water heater on a regular basis (though I don't know the frequency). My spouse and I spent the whole afternoon scrubbing with multiple products, but it seems like a helpless cause. Our church doesn't have much money, so buying a new baptistry is out of the question. We are investigating painting it, but we're afraid the mineral deposits will make that impossible.

Does anyone have any ideas for cleaning it and/ or improving its surface? Does anyone have any ideas or tips for how to care for a baptistry? We need your advice desperately! Thank you in advance!

You may want to try products made specifically for cleaning fiberglass. You'll find these in marine supply and hardware stores.

Here's a good FAQ on how to clean and restore fiberglass.

There are products available where "spa" or hot tub items are sold. I use a scale and build up preventer in mine... works just fine.

Products like "lime away" might help.

Thank you both! I gave you both rep points of appreciation. We are having to restore the baptistry, so the link was very helpful. We are also going to go through a spa store to take care of it once we get it up and running, so that, too, was a great idea. Sorry it has taken me so long to type my thanks, but we have been so busy trying to get this done before Sunday. As it is, it looks like we will have tonight's service in the Fellowship Hall, so people don't pass out from the paint fumes. Anyway, thanks again! Your advice has truly been a bigger blessing than you can know!
