I'd say there are many more people who follow the theistic crowd to fit in somewhere, since it's much larger and more socially approved of in general. The majority blaming the minority for being popular doesn't make much sense, does it?
IMHO, "atheist dogma" is an oxymoron. Atheism is simply nonbelief in a deity. Most atheists favor the scientific method and reason, but that isn't atheism. Nor is it really dogmatic, since findings are open to revision, unlike dogma.
That is obvious. Millions of people follow the theist crown because it is the accepted thing. In a way I applaud atheists for going against the norm. However, as atheism grows, it is becoming an pop culture movement itself. Therefore and pop culture movement will have followers that only do it to be accepted somewhere. As atheist grows you will have more and more "fakes". They are starting to show up more and more each year. They have no reason for wanting to be atheist, they claim to have been something and then suddenly had their eyes opened. I believe this from a few, but to the extent that they are coming out of the wood work... I don't believe it.
Just as many theists claim this and that, but are just repeating what someone else has previously told them.

I haven't heard of too many atheists who do this. Most of them just read some book or some website.

Atheism and skeptics kind of go hand in hand. Not always but I would say 75% of all atheists are skeptics. But then when you think about it, all atheists are skeptic of some form of religion, that would make them all skeptics.
In other words, it's cool to be a rebel/nonconformist.

You would think so, but actually... no. To rebel too much is to be seen as an outcast. I am not trying to rebel against anyone or anything. I am just being myself. I do the things I do for myself and not for the benefit of anyone else.
No, the issue and articles I saw had nothing to do with spirituality, but actual scientifically/archeological accepted works. I love how you attempt to mock my and my beliefs in this way.

Most people are skeptical; certainly most educated people are skeptical.

You believe it, but have you actually done your own experiments or experienced it yourself. If you are simply believing what you read, how does this make you any different than most Christians who believe what they read in the bible?
