CNN.com - Is 'religious humor' an oxymoron? - Nov. 19, 2002 (broken link)

Ties a couple threads together..

What a great quote: "Laughing at oneself and one's own beliefs shows a kind of faith that escapes the literally minded" - Father Steve Lawler

"Too many of the humorless have loss the fullness of their humanity. They stand stone-faced and scared before God. The sad thing is that they think the rest of us should as well."
Another great quote.

The idea that you need to experience being in the minority and almost powerless in order to develop a sense of humor is fascinating.

Amen bigthirsty.

We should all be able to bring laughter to all parts of our existence, including our religion.

What an AWESOME quote! I completely agree (not that I would follow Kathy Griffin and say "Jesus can suck it"). Of course one doesn't want to blaspheme God, so a balance must be found....but again I find this quote to be very true.

Whence comes this idea that if what we are doing is fun, it can't be God's will? The God who made giraffes, a baby's fingernails, a puppy's tail, a crooknecked squash, the bobwhite's call, and a young girl's giggle, has a sense of humor. Make no mistake about that. --Catherine Marshall
