In the Bible God created mankind in a perfect paradise where they would not even die and they could live forever with him. They would not even have to work, just walk around and play and philosophize. After mankind rebelled then God decided he would redeem all of mankind by sacrificing his own son for them even though he knew all wouldn’t even accept the forgiveness that he offered.

Now God allows us to do what we want until the time of judgment even when we do all sorts of evil. But I think the question in the OP is really, is god only good? No, God is just also and vengeful.

OK, you got me there. Maybe if I had been through those things, I would believe in your god as well. There are no Atheists in foxholes, are there?

Here's a golf joke:

A guy dies and wakes up on a beautiful golf course. He goes out and plays a round and shoots 65, which thrills him because he always had trouble breaking 90. He plays the next three days, and continues to shoot 65 every round.

Then he meets the manager of the course and says, "Wow, 65 every day. Heaven is wonderful."

The manager says, "65 every day. You're in hell."

That reminds me of the "paradise" you described.
