If all 'sin' is created equal, why are Christians obsessed with denying gay marriage rights?
According to the bible, homosexuals are no more abhorrent than murderers, liars, theives, divorcees, adulterers, etc--and yet Christians do not expend energy trying to deny these people rights.
Well you see 80SC, if you are a real Christian you are allowed to pick and choose which 'sins' you are going to shout out against. You can, for example, castigate homosexuals as 'Sinners' whilst turning a blind eye to your second or third marriage, that lobster you ate last week, the fact that you have not sold your possessions and given the money to the poor and the fact that you try to get your possessions back when someone takes them from you.
The crux of religious opposition, I reason, is not of religious morality, but rather personal bigotry. People just cling to the "becuase-the-bible-told-me-so" argument because that's easier than addressing their own bias.
In the Bible from Leviticus 18 ... rules were set for ethics were people were not allowed to , uncover the nakedness of any that is near a kin to them, A Mother, A Father, A Fathers wife, A Sister, A daughter of a Father or a daughter of a Mother, a Son`s daughter, or a daughter`s daughter, or a wife daughter, or a fathers daughter, A Fathers brother, or His wife who is a aunt, The daughter - in law, or brother in law, or any kinswoman or man , or take a wife to her sister and curse , or lie with the neighbors wife , or lie with a man kind as with a woman kind, or lie with a beast or animal.....or prostitute the daughters , to cause her to be a ****, lest the land fall to whoredoms ...what is a land of whoredoms ?.... It is a demonic curse which gives back pain ...... See The same God of Christianity brought this rules for His Children of Israel......
I remember I wondered "How come you can't divorce and remarry, but you can kill and remarry." Well if I'm reading this right both are forbidden, well there's some complication, of Catholics anyway. To wit
"Further, in whatsoever a man sins, in that same must he be punished. But he who kills his wife sins against marriage. Therefore he must be punished by being deprived of marriage." Thomas Aquinas (Presumably the reverse works as well, wives who kill husbands, but books were often speaking to men back then)
Also the Baltimore Catechism states that, "To receive the sacrament of Matrimony worthily it is necessary to be in the state of grace, to know the duties of married life, and to obey the marriage laws of the Church." This would seem to imply, to me, a murderer shouldn't get married without repentance.
Anyway the marriage of a murderer or thief doesn't really change the nature of marriage. Complementarity and procreation are not influenced. From a Christian perspective remarriage after divorce should be wrong, with room for debate on marriages ended by sexual immorality per Matthew I believe, but for a variety of reasons many Protestants kind of ignore that. Although I do know of Protestants that say divorce can only be allowed in cases of adultery. (And probably if it turns out you were unknowingly first-cousins or half-siblings as incest could fit as "sexual immorality." I don't know if porn would, but maybe)
Granted I'm going on Catholic bases, not even really concerning what the state does here, because I don't know Protestantism well. (Possibly less well than I know Islam) I think in Protestantism it can simply be a matter of same-sex marriage not existing in the Bible.

Why are Christians such hypocrites on this issue?
Homosexuals aren't mentioned at all in the Bible if it is read in it's historical and cultural context in the original languages.
Men should not have sex with sacred male cult prostitutes when worshipping pagan gods - check.
Straight men threatened to rape other men or angels who came to visit their town - check
Straight people engaged in same-gender sex acts while worshipping pagan fertility gods and goddesses in the Canaanite or Roman temples- check.
So what does any of that have to do with homosexuality or gays and lesbians in the 21st century?

Actually you got at least one of those wrong. There is NO condemnation of a father having sex with his daughter. Curious isn't it?

There's no widespread condemnation of rapists getting married either.
Of course in the Bible, virgin girls who were raped were commanded to marry their rapist, with no possibility of divorce - After the rapist has paid the girls father 50 shekels of silver to compensate him for despoiling the father's property of course.
