Correct, because atheism is a response to religious beliefs.

And that should be gods, plural. We do not believe in gods.

Atheism is a response to the attempts of god-ists to control and dominate.

atheism has nothing to do with "control" or "domination" or "attempts"

Definitionally it is simply not believing in even one god. However in practical terms of what pushes people in that direction, for many it has a great deal to do with control, domination and attempts. As he said, his atheism is a "response" to those things. Mine is less about those things than about the failed epistemology of religious faith. Others may have come to atheism in response to yet other factors. But what atheism is once you come to it, is not seeing a valid reason to believe religion's truth claims.

an individual person can believe whatever they want.
however that does not determine what "atheism" is

For instance data (2018, 2019) shows that 18% of atheists in America believe in a higher power or spiritual force. 10% of atheists believe in psychics. 7% of atheists believe in reincarnation.

does that mean that reincarnation, psychics, higher power, and spiritual force are atheism?

no, he did NOT say "his atheism is." He said "atheism is." See below, post in its entirety.
for many atheists their atheism includes reincarnation, psychics, and a higher power.

and no, atheism also has nothing to do with "reasons" or "religion" or "claims"
atheism is a lack of belief.
it is not the reasons why someone chooses it.

I would prefer to hear what atheism is from a fellow atheist or a person who has in the past been an atheist.
I would prefer to hear what Buddhism is from a fellow Buddhist or a person who has in the past been an Buddhist.
