Einstein letter, set for auction, shows scientist challenging idea of God, being 'chosen' – CNN Belief Blog - CNN.com Blogs

I guess that whole argument about the smartest man of the 20th century being religious just went out the window

I especially liked his acknowledgement of the 'chosen one' and how every one of the thousands of religions out there think they're the right religion.

If you are trying to make Albert Einstein some kind of spokesman for the Jews, well... he is not, and never was. He was just a lone Yid, with some good scientific ideas (that were heavily influenced by modern secular belief, not by classic Torah belief).

I can's see what your point is in bringing this thread? Just that a smart guy didn't believe in G-d? There are lots of smart guys who don't believe in G-d. Nothing new here.

Or that a Jew doesn't believe in the idea of Jews being chosen by Hashem? Also nothing new there. BTW, we Jews don't ever discuss this chosen thing - that seems to be the realm of all the other nations of the world. Even if we are, what business is it of yours?

Well, at other times in his life he said things that could be interpreted as "Deist."

Therefore, religious people can no longer say "Well, Einstein was religious!" I can't count on my hand how many times I've heard it.

"I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals Himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with fates and actions of human beings." - Albert Einstein

This what you're referring to?

People might wish to read up on argumentum ad verecundiam. The letter is excellent evidence of Einstein's views on topics outside his area of expertise, nothing more.

You seem upset bro, let me break it down:

1. I saw this article in the news today.
2. It pertains to religion.
3. Therefore I posted it in the "Religion and Spirituality" forum to generate discussion, which it has.

You follow?
