Jerusalem, Mecca, Rome, Lourdes, Varanasi, Amritsar, Kyoto...there are many locations around the world which have religious significance. They might also be places for pilgrimages. Has anybody here, of any religion, made any such religious pilgrimage? If so, how was it? Did you find it a spiritually uplifting experience?

The only "Holy sites" I have visited were Mecca (I was not Muslim at the time and did not know I was not supposed to be there) That was in about 1963 and not during Hajj. It was a very empty city at the time. Nothing for a lost tourist to notice. also visited Jerusalem, but was an Athiest at that time.

I would like to do Hajj one day. My Son-in-Law did it for me as I was not physically able to and still am not. But, perhaps one day.

I've been there and of course went to the Temple. They were all over us recruiting, it's what they do. Salt Lake is a beautiful city and Utah is a beautiful state, but what I've heard is that if you are not a member of the church, people won't even speak to you, except to proselytize.
