Sacrifice means giving up something. It is a central theme of the Bible. Many of us first heard of the word sacrifice from the Bible. We read about Abraham's sacrifice, Isaac's sacrifice and Jacob's sacrifice. Throughout the Old Testament, we see the Israelites making sacrifices to God continually. You could not think of a prophet of God in the Bible without thinking about sacrifices. You could not think of Elijah, without thinking of his experience with the four hundred prophets of Baal.
However, today, sacrifice is one of the most hushed topics in church. The church has totally abandoned the original message of sacrifice. Other religions constantly demonstrate to us the essence and practice of sacrifice.
My question: is the message of sacrifice very relevant for all of us today? In what ways do we sacrifice and what do we have to sacrifice today?
I see signs of "sacrifice" around me every day. I see woman who would sacrifice what they really need so that their children will have more of what they need...I see relationships sacrificed because someone else doesn't agree with it,...I see family unity sacrificed because it's easier to just turn away, than face any issues....I see freedoms sacrificed so that others can be...
