It doesn't matter, if you believe in it or not. Papal infallibility is a fact for Catholics, but you can discuss whether it's necessary for the Catholic faith. In my opinion, it's helpful to reach a decision without arguing with 1 billion church members. Is it authoritarian? Yes.
