You folk's posts really brought a smile to my face.
Thanks for the interesting posts.
Vizio, no, God does not literally hate anyone. "Hate" as used in ancient Israel does not mean what we today use it to mean.
For instance, in Romans 9 where it states "Jacob I love yet Esau I hate" He was not saying He literally hated Esau but that He was withdrawing the blessings from Esau and giving more attention to Jacob. Later on He did bless Esau greatly thus showing literally his love for him.
Likewise when Jesus said to His disciples they needed to hate their mother and father and wives and children or they couldn't be His disciples, He was not telling them to break the law (i.e., Love they mother and father), which He had to uphold. He was telling them that to be His disciples in fully following Him that they needed to give more attention to the work that needed to be done during that time rather than putting all their time with their relations.
I never meant for this to get into a theological debate. I just wanted my friends her to know God isn't mad at them, that He really does love you.
I'm sure we all understand your motives, but I'm sure you also understand that a plonking statement of faith -based speculation presented as a fact is going to be picked up.
